Working on my Fitness

Isn't that a song or something?  Ha!  I just looked it up and it's a line in a Fergie son.  Too funny since I don't even listen to her.  So the past few months I have been getting back into the swing of exercising so that I can shed the rest of my baby weight and get some of my strength back.  Crazy how taxing having a baby is on your body!  For the most part I enjoy working out but I don't necessarily LOVE it.  I just love how I feel when I'm done.  I'm pretty sure that's how most people are though.  We cancelled the membership to our gym last year since we decided that $40 would be better used somewhere else right now.  It wasn't so bad when I was pregnant since I was mostly just walking to stay in shape but it's been kind of a bummer lately.  So I've had to get creative and also put some goals out in front of me to keep me motivated.

I participated in the Ragnar Relay again this year with a team of ladies which was pretty good motivation to get out and run.  The only problem was I had a really hard recovery from having Abby so I didn't get to train as long or hard as I should have or wanted to.  But I did pretty well considering.  I ran three legs which were 4.5 miles, 5.0 miles and 3.5 miles.  The last one by far was the WORST!  Not only was I tired from lack of sleep it was more than a mile straight up hill, then down for a bit and then uphill again.  Gah!  I finally decided that I could power walk up faster than I could run so I did and was still able to finish in about 45 min.  I was so physically and mentally exauhsted when I was done that when I got home and got in the shower I just started crying.  Ha!  Talk about lack of sleep.  The crazy thing is that I'll probably do it again.  The sense of accomplishment, team work and fun keeps me going back.

So once I finished Ragnar there were a few of us that decided that we needed another event to keep us "working on our fitness" and keep us motivated.  So one of them talked us into doing a mini sprint triathlon.  So that's what I am currently working on.  It is definitely a different type of training.  Especially since I've never been on a road bike before (and man does my butt hurt!).  Fortunately my friend has one she's letting me borrow.  It's a little big but I've made some adjustments to make it work.  So I'm swimming, biking and running each two times during the week to prepare.  The triathlon is April 16th so only about 3 weeks away.  I hope I'm ready!

I'll let you know if it was fun when I'm done. ;-)

Kim, I don't do this very often, but I'm going to turn into a breathing commercial right now. If you just got rid of your membership and want to stay inside for your workouts because of Abigail, I LOVE my total body workout machine. It's a knock-off of the TotalGym, but is MUCH cheaper and does just as good a job. Look into it. Kevin got mine for Christmas for me and spent about 170 bucks is all. Good luck

Lady, sometimes I feel like our lives are paralleled! I've been feeling the same thing lately, so I decided I needed something of a goal as well. I've been training for a half marathon and it is also on April 16th. I'll think of you that day and send some good vibes your way:)

GO Kim! I do think most people like the feeling after. Not necessarily the act of exercising . ha
