Last night for Family Home Evening it was my turn to give the lesson. For those of you who are not familiar with FHE it is an activity that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participate in each Monday evening in their homes. Each family gathers together to sing, pray and have a spiritual lesson given by one of the family members about something that is important to them or that as a family they can work on. After the main portion of FHE there is always a fun activity and of course a treat! Mondays are always a special time and even though right now our family only consists of two of us we have made it a priority to hold FHE each Monday so that it will continue to be an important part of our lives after our kids come along (which is soon!). Now back to the topic at hand. Last night it way my turn to give the lesson and I decided to focus on the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and is a book that we use as a companion to the King James version of the bible. The reason that we have both is because the Bible is a record of the ancient people in the old world (Jerusalem) and the Book of Mormon is a record of the people here on the American Continent. Not too sure about that concept? Take a look at John 10:16. God is a just God and wanted all people to witness the great miracle that was the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so it only makes sense that he would appear both in the old world and the new world so that he could teach the people and establish the gospel upon the earth. So many people are confused about why we have the Book of Mormon and why if we have the bible it is necessary to have another record. Many people also are under the impression that Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon when in fact all he did was translate it by the gift and power of God. It is the record of ancient prophets who lived upon the American continent before and after the death of Jesus Christ. The reason it is so important is that over the years the Bible has been translated numerous times and many of the plain and precious truths of the gospel have been lost. The Bible and Book of Mormon together give us the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have read the Book of Mormon and I have pondered and prayed about the teaching within and I know without a doubt that this book is true. How do I know you ask? I know because the Holy Ghost has confirmed the truth of it to me in my heart. Last night as part of FHE we watched the video below. If you have never seen it I invite you to watch it. It is less than 5 minutes long and is the incredible testimony of an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know that we have a prophet of God here on this earth and that he serves with apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know that both the Book of Mormon and Bible are the word of God and that we can become closer to God by reading them. But the marvelous thing about it is that you don't have to take my word for it. You can know for yourself by reading, pondering and praying to God to know if these things truly come from him. I invite all of you regardless of your faith to take the opportunity to read this incredible book. Click HERE for your very own FREE copy. Enjoy the video!
