Spring Cleaning...well sort of

Well, nothing too exciting has been happening around our place lately other than the fact that weather ranges from 37' to 70' just about everyday. Winter in AZ is SO weird. I wear a heavy coat and gloves to walk into work in the morning and have to carry them to the car in the evening. Makes for some major wardrobe confusion. For example today I am wearing jeans and a turtle neck and on the walk into work wore my 3/4 length pea coat and some mittens and when I opened the door to my building this kid walked out in a short sleeve shirt, shorts and flip flops. I was freezing (I always am) and he looked like he was headed to the beach. Ha, too funny!

Well since we've been kind of having a spring tease and my sister Shelley just went crazy, organization woman on me with her house I was inspired to get a little jump on mine. I figured that even though I've been tired lately that after sleeping in on a Saturday and with Bud's help we could at least clean and unclutter one room in the house. The other day I didn't feel well so I stayed home from work but felt better in the afternoon and cleaned the kitchen and mopped the floor. In my opinion mopping is the worst job ever invented especially when you have tile. I HATE tile. The grout always looks gross no matter how much you scrub and the hair (no matter how much you sweep and vacuum) likes to stick it and to your rag. Annoying! Anyway that's besides the point...the point is the kitchen was done so I decided it was our bedroom that needed tackling. Bud was mildly enthusiastic but was a fantastic sport! We sort of had an X-men movie marathon this weekend so that helped I think. ;-)

So we spent about four hours doing the following: vacuuming base boards, wiping the inch of dust off the ceiling fan, washing our sheets, dusting the furniture, going through all the clothes and shoes in our closet and removing the mattresses from the bed so we could vacuum underneath (Bud thought I was crazy until I made him do it and he realized that he could actually sweep...yes SWEEP the dust under there it was so thick. Nasty!!). It was exhausting but looks and feels SO good! Many of you may be shocked that I let that much dust accumulate in my house since I've always been kind of a neat freak. Well first of all if you've ever lived in AZ you'll know that as soon as you dust something the dust returns with in the hour. Second I think the whirlwind of getting married, being called to the RS presidency as a counselor and then as the president, singing in a local choir and working full-time has definitely taken it's toll on me this last year and a half. I often feel like there just aren't enough hours in my day to do the things I need and want to do. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like that though.

Many of you may cringe when I say this (only because it's not as easy as I'm sure I think) but I am SO excited to be a stay at home mom one day. I feel like I will be able to actually manage my home a little bit better. I don't mean that it will be spotless everyday but I imagine with 7 days in a week that I can at least give 6 small rooms (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen & living room) one day of attention each week to at least dust and vacuum. Anyway...here's to a little spring cleaning in the middle of a warm AZ winter. Thanks for the inspiration Shelley!

(Bud this past weekend...ha!)

I totally agree with you on the excitement about being a stay-at-home mom, especially after I was a working mom for 1 1/2 years. Sure, it isn't easy, neither is working, but we are always happiest where our heart most wants to be. I think the hardest thing is that sometimes I had a little too much time to clean and wish I had something else to do. That's only the case when the first is a baby though. Once the baby is mobile, life is never boring again!

So true. One kid is easy, I hated working. Of course I never had a job I liked...but being a stay at home mom is exhausting, because it's not just one job, it's several WITHOUT PAY. (cook, clean, kids, driver, scheduler, bill payer, ect, and also try to find time for hobbies and yourself) FREE ADVICE: If there's any big project of any kind you'd like to get done, do it now before you get to big and uncomfortable and definitely before the baby comes.

YAY! I'm glad you got a room done! I know that you really wanted to.
Isn't it a great feeling! I LOVE IT!
I have to say, that I agree. The dust is the WORST part about the whole cleaning thing. This sounds totally psycho, but remember, it's me.... But I dust EVERYDAY LOL LOL LOL. I'm totally OCD, and since I have black furniture I just run a rag over everything, everyday. I think that's a LOT of the reason I switched to white furniture, and lighter paint. They don't show as much dust. lol.

went rented a steam cleaner for our grout, and you wouldn't believe the difference it made....it was well worth the 50 bucks from home depot....

Hi I read Shelley's blog and I hope you don't mind me commenting. I work school hours and I'm home with the kids after school... so I can attest to the fact that being a stay at home Mum is the best... you just have to concentrate on being a Mum...not worrying about juggling work and home etc. I hope you are feeling better. Thanks for sharing
